Joan Anita (Curtis) Garlick

A Godly Woman -

Joan Anita (Curtis) Garlick, age 83, of Carlisle, and formerly of Mechanicsburg, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 4, 2020.  Joan was born on Monday, December 7, 1936, in Effort, PA to the late Joseph E. Curtis and Anita Pauline (Learn) Curtis.   In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Mark Garlick in 2014.

Joan’s survivors include her husband of 63 years, Glenn Bernard Garlick; her two sons: Jeffrey Garlick and wife Lisa of York, PA, Andrew Garlick and wife Tara Henderson of Marion, OH; her daughter-in-law, Terrie Burgess and husband Jim of Dillsburg, PA; her four grandchildren: Alainna Garlick, Adam Garlick, Joshua Garlick, Paige Garlick; her six great-grandchildren; her two siblings: Janet Lewis and husband Michael of Surfside Beach, SC, Nigel Curtis and wife Kathy of Greenwood, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

Joan graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1953.  She was a successful independent sales consultant for Mary Kay for over 30 years, and worked as a proofreader at C & J Printing for over 10 years.  Joan belonged to Grace Baptist Church in Carlisle and participated in almost every group within the church during her 60 years as a member.  She also taught music at Grace Baptist Christian School.  Joan really liked to iron and her family remembers her ironing everything.  She loved to travel with her husband, visiting all 50 states, enjoying numerous cruises, and touring Europe.  Joan loved people and working with people.  She was gracious and giving, and a great example of a Godly woman.

All are welcome to join Joan’s family for her in-person gathering of family and friends at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 7055, or her virtual service via video chat or telephone on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, from 11:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Simon O’Mahony officiating.  A graveside service and burial in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will immediately follow.

While Joan’s family will not be accepting flowers, they invite those wishing to celebrate Joan’s life to make a memorial contribution to Grace Baptist Christian School, 777 West North Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
