John Elwood Brandt, age 92, of Carlisle, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. John was born on Saturday, November 4, 1933, in Mechanicsburg to the late Ray McKeon Brandt and Mary Ellen (Whitcomb) Brandt. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his daughter: Lisa (Brandt) Goodhart, and his brother: Robert Brandt.
John’s survivors include his wife of 66 years, Judith B. (Baker) Brandt; his three grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and his sister: Louise Henry and husband Gary “Dick”, of Mechanicsburg.
John graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1952. After completing his education, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. John spent his career as a carpenter and retired from the Carpenters’ union in 1995. He was a devoted member of the Shepherdstown United Methodist Church and a member of the Eureka-West Shore Lodge No. 302 in Mechanicsburg.
John’s leisure hobbies included deer hunting, woodworking, and woodcarving. He also participated in softball games for the local church league. He will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
All are welcome to join John’s family at his viewing on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend John Mackey officiating. John’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Shepherdstown United Methodist Church, 1934 S. York Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, immediately following the service. Burial will be private in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Churchtown.
