Kathleen “Kit” O. (McClenahen) Callahan, age 81, of Mifflintown, and formerly of Strodes Mills, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026. Kit was born on Sunday, January 28, 1945, in Lewistown to the late Herbert McClenahen and Nellie Mae (Dippery) McClenahen. Kit was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James (Jim) Callahan Sr., whom she shared 64 amazing years of marriage. In addition to her parents and husband, Kit is preceded in death by 3 infant daughters.
Kit’s survivors include her three children: James Martin Callahan, Jr. of Mifflintown, Jamie Mae Lutz and husband, Brian, of Reedsville, and Jennifer L. Nouse and husband, Kevin, of Mechanicsburg; her eight grandchildren: Zachary Snook, Whitney Snook, Taylor Romig and husband, Skyler, Nathan Burd and wife, Chrissy, Amber Espigh and husband Justin, Quentin Callahan, Logan Nouse, and Emalee Nouse; her eight great-grandchildren: Isabelle Pecht, Landon Pecht, Nolan Wilt, Wrenley Romig, Camreigh Espigh, Johnna Espigh, Jaxon Espigh, and Keely Burd; her brother, Gary Lee "Butch" McClenahen and wife Carol, of Reedsville; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved canine companion: Ace.
Kit graduated from Kishacoquillas High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jim in 1961. She was a devoted mom and homemaker while working part time at local retail stores in Burnham, PA. Kit's deep love and care for others led her to pursue further education at the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. She received her LPN degree at 40 years old and retired from Lewistown Hospital in 2012. She also spent many years caring for others as a Hospice volunteer and private duty nurse.
Throughout her life, Kathleen displayed an unwavering dedication to her loved ones. She often embarked on weekends filled with laughter and joy, whether camping by the river near Granville or at the beautiful Raystown Lake. She enjoyed the outdoors as well as trips to the casino and beach. Her family was a treasured part of her life, and she will be remembered for the many years of love and memories she shared with them. Her legacy will fill the hearts of all who know and love her
Kit’s family will be remembering her with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
