Kenneth “Ken” Elwood Bricker, Sr.
Kenneth “Ken” Elwood Bricker, Sr., age 89, of Carlisle, and formerly of Hogestown, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023. Ken was born on Saturday, June 2, 1933, in Hogestown to the late John Bricker, Jr. and Anna Ruth (Sutch) Bricker. Ken was the widower of Virginia Isabell (Griffith) Bricker, whom he married on April 29, 1956, and who died on February 8, 1998. In addition to his parents and wife, Ken is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Bricker; his three brothers: Oliver, Oscar and Albert Bricker; and his three sisters: Violet Wallace, Arleene Tafeen and Edna Westhaver.
Ken’s survivors include his two sons: Kenneth “Kenny” Bricker, Jr. of Carlisle; Jeff Bricker and his wife, Jill, of Camp Hill; his daughter, Kim Bricker and her partner, Barb Hazzard, of Shermans Dale; his three grandchildren: John Bricker, Katie Monroe, Hilary Bates; his six great-grandchildren; his two brothers: Richard Bricker and his wife, Joann, of Enola; Lee Bricker and his wife, Harriet, of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Ken was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Carpenter’s Union, Masons and American Legion Post #109 Mechanicsburg. He loved super sportsman racing and raced at Silver Spring Speedway from 1956 to 1973. Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing, both deep sea and freshwater, could build anything with wood and was known to be a hard worker. He also liked playing cards, most especially Gin Rummy, Spades and Hearts. Ken’s family and friends will deeply miss him.
All are welcome to join Ken’s family at his viewing on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Ken’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
