Lana Sue Mitchell

Lana “Baba” Sue (Haddox) Mitchell, age 84, of Carlisle, died on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Lana was born on Thursday, March 14, 1940 in Clarksburg, WV to the late Charles Vincent Haddox and Geraldine (Selkirk) Haddox. Lana was the widow of George B. Mitchell, whom she married on February 16, 1960, and who died on May 25, 1987. In addition to her parents and husband, Lana is preceded in death by her brother, Gary Haddox; and her beloved feline companion, Pixie. 

Lana’s survivors include her two sons: Todd Mitchell and his wife Jamie of New Kingstown, PA, Paul Mitchell and his wife Sheila of Boiling Springs, PA; her five grandchildren: Neil Mitchell and his wife Kayla, Courtney Mitchell-Grenner and her husband Michael, Jared Mitchell and his wife Amanda, Paige Rhoads and her husband Zachery, and Natalie Mitchell; her 9 great-grandchildren: Hailie Grenner, Kylie Grenner, Aralyn Mitchell, Aiden Mitchell, Carson Mitchell, Charlotte Rhoads, Kingston Mitchell, Owen Grenner, and Jameson Rhoads.

Lana graduated from Clarksburg High School as part of the class of 1958. She served as an administrative assistant for Harrisburg School District until her retirement in 2005. Lana was a very spiritual woman and was a lifelong member of Camp Hill Christian Missionary Alliance. She was an avid Penn State Football fan who also enjoyed cheering for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Steelers. Lana had an adventurous spirit, she enjoyed camping and even tried hang gliding. She loved to travel all over, even going as far as Alaska on a cruise. She enjoyed her time at home reading, crocheting, and playing cards with friends. Lana loved animals especially cats. She will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have been in her life. 

All are welcome to join Lana’s family at her viewing on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with celebrant George Spangler officiating. Burial will follow the service in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill.
