Would Do Anything for Anyone -

Larry Gibney, age 79, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Etters, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.  Larry was born on Wednesday, December 9, 1942, in Newport to the late Russell Thomas Gibney, Sr. and Mary Clementine (Jamison) Gibney.

Larry’s survivors include his wife of 56 years, Olive Louise (Haines) Gibney; his daughter, Jody Smithmyer and husband, Brian, of Mechanicsburg; his son, Christopher “Chris” Gibney of Mechanicsburg; his two grandsons: Corey and Andrew Smithmyer; his brother, Tom Gibney and wife, Judy, of Newport; his three sisters: Monann Bailor of Shippensburg, Lynda Ogden and husband, Robert, of Newport, Suellen Friedline of York Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry graduated from Newport High School as part of the class of 1961 and earned his Associates Degree from Williamsport Tech.  He retired from Eastern Copyfax, Inc. in Camp Hill, after working as a service technician for 30 years.  Larry also retired from the Mechanicsburg Walmart, after 20 years of service working as a photo lab technician.  In his spare time, Larry enjoyed putting together and displaying model trains; he had seven tracks of his own set up.  He also liked to try his luck by scratching lottery tickets, hoping to hit it big one day.  Larry was known to be the ultimate jokester and was quite the social butterfly.  He truly enjoyed helping others; he would do anything for anyone.

All are welcome to join Larry’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Dr. Dennis Keller officiating.  A virtual gathering and service via video chat or telephone will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Larry’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of our parking lots.  Interment will follow the reception in Snyder’s Cemetery in New Bloomfield.  Honored to be the urn bearer is Andrew Smithmyer.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Larry’s life can be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, www.heart.org/Donate; or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116, www.diabetes.org/ways-to-give/.
