Mechanicsburg

Leo Yung, age 89, of Mechanicsburg passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.  Leo was born on Friday, March 30, 1934 in Reading to the late Heinz Jung and Margaretta (Grampp) Fischer.  In addition to his parents, Leo is preceded in death by his brother, Paul Fischer.

Leo’s survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Evelyn “Lyn” Geraldine (Proof) Yung; his three children: Cathy Ann Beam and her husband, Thomas, of Newville, Brenda Lee Askey of Carlisle, Scott Leo Yung and his fiancé, Kathleen Long, of Jenkintown; and his 4 grandchildren: Jared Askey and his significant other, Kelsie Hopfauf, Alex Beam and his fiancé, Michaela Jones, Emily Beam, and Alyssa Yung.

Leo was a proud Navy Veteran who served during the Korean War aboard the Daisy Mae now known as the USS Des Moines in the Mediterranean.  He was an active and committed member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 55 years.  Leo retired from Forklifts Inc., after 40 years of service working as a mechanic.  Leo was a NASCAR fanatic, and loved watching the races. He enjoyed John Wayne, Louis L’Amour, and anything western. Leo had an active mind, and was an avid reader. He was a talented handyman and problem solver, and could fix darn near anything.  Leo was stubborn, and adored his wife and always thought of her well-being – they lived a true love story.  He enjoyed vacations which included, going on cruises, traveling to Hawaii, and sitting on the beach.  Leo was passionate about bringing joy to others, and played Santa Claus for various functions for well over 20 years.  He loved watching his grandchildren take part in their activities, and was a beloved member of the family.  He will be dearly missed.
