Margaret Murray (Shaw) Melville

MARGARET SHAW MELVILLE, age 90 (going on 60), of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023.

An avid reader, world traveler and genealogist, Margaret had a keen intellect and mirthful curiosity that she shared with all she knew, especially her four children, Geo. H. Melville, John Graham Melville, Nancy Alexander Shaw Melville, and Elizabeth S. Melville, and their significant others, Manuela Melville, Paul Campagnoli, and Indigo Margolis. She also took great delight in her five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Born in Bel Air, MD, she was the first daughter of Alexander and Margaret Shaw. She was a graduate of Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore and attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she studied psychology. She worked at several esteemed law firms and had numerous small business ventures. Her accomplishments were many and driven by a tenacity and love of life. She was in her element when conversing in French with locals on the streets of Paris, sipping an Aperol spritz on Lake Como, or enjoying a Maryland crab cake on her beloved Chesapeake Bay.

She will be greatly missed, and her legacy of intellectual curiosity, cheerfulness, and joy in small things will live on. A service in her honor will be held on October 6, 2023 (date tentative) at St. Mary’s Church in Fallston, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
