Margit (Schnepfleitner) Zaccano
Margit (Schnepfleitner) Zaccano, age 85, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Lemoyne, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Margit was born on Thursday, May 20, 1937, in Graz, Austria to the late Kurt Schubert and Maria Schnepfleitner. Margit was the widow of Joseph Peter Zaccano, Jr, Ph. D., who died on February 6, 1978. In addition to her parents and husband, Margit is preceded in death by her sister, Elfrieda.
Margit’s survivors include her son, Robert “Bobby” Michael Zaccano and wife, Mandi Hurley, of Harrisburg; her two grandchildren: Lt. Tahnee Zaccano-Santos, USCG and wife, Nina Santos-Zaccano, of Bangor, WA and Michael Zaccano and his partner, Bekah Dunn, of Pittsburgh; her two siblings, Monica and Mumford, of Austria; and several nieces and nephews.
Margit was a homeless refugee through much of World War II following the Anschluss, the Nazi takeover of Austria. As a young adult, she attended hotel school and graduated with honors. Margit met her future husband, Joseph, a soldier in the United States Army, while working in hotel management. After they were married, she would move with Joseph to the United States, where she proudly became a United States Citizen. Margit and Dr. Joseph Peter Zaccano, Jr., Ph. D. settled in Harrisburg where they raised one child, Robert. She worked as a homemaker and taught French until she became disabled.
A funeral service will be held on June 12, 2022 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's in the Valley Episcopal Church, 4620 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112. Interment will follow the service in the church columbarium. All are welcome to attend.
