Carlisle

Mark Allen Vogelsong, Sr., 67, of Silver Spring Township, died suddenly on June 22, 2026.

Born March 3, 1959, in Mechanicsburg, Mark was the son of the late Lawrence B. Vogelsong, Jr., and Joanne Baker Vogelsong.

Mark is survived by his companion of 32 years, Kathy Strawser; his sons by his first wife, Mark A. Vogelsong Jr. and his wife, Amanda, and Wesley L. Vogelsong; his two grandchildren: Adyson Kay and Mark Wesley; his two siblings: Linda L. Koval, and Brian D. Vogelsong and his wife, Joann. In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by his sister, Dora G. Vogelsong.

Mark was a 1977 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School. He worked at Exel Logistics and Keen Transport, prior to retiring in January 2026.

Mark had many things that he was passionate about from the farming, woodworking, and shooting-hunting.  The farm that he grew up on (Wertzville Road) has been in his family for several generations. He farmed along with his father & brother for many years, purchasing the farm after his father’s death. He spent a lot of time in the woods with his father, brother, & friends. Mark carried on that tradition with his own sons, Mark Jr. and Wesley. He was very skilled with the rifle and shotgun. He spent many afternoons and weekends at the local fish and game for sporting clay-trap or in the back yard shooting targets.  At times you would find him in his wood shop in his barn. Mark was a pretty crafty guy.  He loved Kat his companion, his family, sitting in his chair, and a cold beer after a hard day of work.

Those who knew Mark best – family and his friends from work – will also have great stories to share about the fact that he was not a big talker, did not suffer fools gladly, and, as Kathy could attest to, could be as stubborn as a mule. And there are equally as many great stories about how much fun Mark was and how much he loved spending time with his sons.

Those who knew him the longest (and there are not many who will remember this) will recall working with him as a teenager at Kentucky Fried Chicken when it was one of the few restaurants in town.

All are welcome to join Mark’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
