Martha Jane (Nason) Hamberger, age 93 formerly of Lock Haven, died on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Martha was born on Monday, August 22, 1932, in Philipsburg to the late John Nason and Clara (Williams) Nason. Martha was the widow of Charles "Chummy" William Hamberger, whom she married on September 1, 1954, and who died on July 27, 2007. In addition to her parents and husband, Martha is preceded in death by her siblings: John "Jack" Nason and Elizabeth Pettingill.
Martha's survivors include her two children: Charyl Calabrese and her husband, and Martha's favorite son-in-law, Daniel, of Mechanicsburg, Charles Hamberger of Mechanicsburg, her five grandchildren: Daniel (Nicole), Anthony (Theresa), Nicholas (Danielle), Christopher (Corinne), and Thomas (Carleigh), her fifteen great-grandchildren: Vincent, Dominic, Isabella, Roman, Quinn, Greyson, Reed, Remington, Raelyn, Orina, Reagan, Tenley, Silas, Scarlett, and Stephen; her sister-in-law: Arlie Christian of Virginia Beach, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
An alumna of Philipsburg High School, class of 1950, Martha’s commitment to education advanced as she attained a Master's Degree in Nursing from Shippensburg University. Her professional life was devoted to the Keystone Central School District, where she served with unwavering compassion and skill as a school nurse. Through these many years, her impact was felt deeply by generations of students and colleagues alike, a testament to her nurturing spirit and steadfast dedication.
Martha’s intellectual curiosity was insatiable; she found great joy in reading, particularly works that explored history and politics, and was a member of a book club that allowed her to engage in enriching dialogue with fellow enthusiasts. This passion for history also found expression in her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), an organization reflecting her profound respect for heritage. Beyond the pages of books, Martha’s love of travel took her across international borders, broadening her horizons and deepening her appreciation of the world’s rich tapestry of cultures.
Known for her discerning eye and refined taste, Martha was an avid collector of antique salt dishes, with an impressive collection of over 100 salt dishes, each piece telling its own unique story. Her lighter pursuits included the quiet companionship of cats, the challenge of crossword puzzles, and the spirited mental contests of game shows, with Jeopardy standing out as a beloved favorite. Above all, Martha treasured the time spent with her family, grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren, where her kindness and warmth shone most brightly. She was a devoted mother to her children. Her memory will endure as an exemplar of kindness and grace, forever treasured by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. In her passing, we celebrate a life exceptionally well lived and a soul profoundly loved.
