Mary Wiest

Mary Louise (Matter) Wiest, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Mary was born on Thursday, June 26, 1930, in Loyalton to the late Nevin Matter and Gertrude Matter. Mary was the widow of Alvin Lloyd Wiest, whom she was married to for 70 years, and who died on November 22, 2019. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by her two sons.

Mary’s survivors include her four children: Donna Hoover and husband Paul, of Mechanicsburg, Carol Hummel and husband Ken, of Mechanicsburg, Stewart Wiest of Mechanicsburg, Gary Wiest and wife Cheryl, of Shippensburg; her eight grandchildren; her 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary attended Mt. Zion U. M. Church for many years, then Harrisburg 1st Assembly of God. She retired from HACC after many years of service work in the hospitality department. Mary will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and devotion as a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed making quilts, doing crafts, liquid embroidery, gardening.  She cherished the quality time spent with her family & friends. Mary will be greatly missed by her friends and beloved family.

All are welcome to join Mary’s family at her viewing on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Pastor Terry Lamer and Pastor Tom Budzowski officiating. Mary’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service. Burial will follow the reception in Woodlawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
