Matthew “Matt" John Ott, age 68, of Shiremanstown died on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Matt was born on Saturday, March 15, 1958, in Henry County, Indiana to the late Rev. G. Sherman Ott and Gladys Dorothy Ott.
Matt’s survivors include his three brothers: Stephen “Steve” P. Ott and his wife Sharon of Shiremanstown, PA, Dr. Timothy “Tim” Ott and his wife Chrystal of Quincy, IL, Rev. Dr. Daniel “Dan” Ott and his wife Teri of Richmond, VA; and his nine nieces and nephews.
Matt graduated from Elizabeth-Forward High School as part of the class of 1976 and from Virginia Military Institute in 1980 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed by Siemens Allis in Texas and Basler Electric in St. Louis, for many years as an electrical engineer. Matt also worked at various other businesses including, Sears at the Capital City Mall and Toys R Us in Mechanicsburg. He was a jokester, delighting kids with his custom lunches of poop and bug guts (peanut butter and jelly) or cockaroacharoo (beans and franks). Matt savored a challenge. He chose his college major because he was told it was the most difficult at the school. Matt was a history buff and could always find ways to relay historical facts to those around him. He was a tabletop roleplaying game enthusiast. Matt played in person and online and played in several groups as either the dungeon master or a player. He was a family man and helped to raise his four nephews and nieces. Matt will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
