Mervin E. Hill Jr., 78, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, at Penn State Hampden Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1948, in Carlisle, PA.
Merv was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1966. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from 1966 to 1969, attaining the rank of Sergeant E-5 and serving as an Officer in Charge. Following his military service, Merv began a long and dedicated career with the Pennsylvania State Police, where he served for more than 23 years.
Merv will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Chris; his children, Clint Hill and his significant other, Jodi Smith, and Meagan Sotirokos and her husband, Earnie Sotirokos; his beloved grandson, George; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin E. Hill Sr. and Mary Hill, and sister Darlene McNaughton.
Merv leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, strength, and the importance of family. He had a lighthearted spirit and a way of turning everyday moments into memories that his family will cherish forever. Merv's stories, jokes, laughter, and one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed. He loved to travel, either on his Harley or on one of many cruises he took with family. Merv's favorite destinations were the Grand Cayman and Aruba, but most of all he treasured his time at the beach with his family. He will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the 3rd Floor staff at Penn State Hampden Hospital and Hospice of Central PA for the compassionate care and support they provided to Merv and his family. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort during a difficult time and will always be deeply appreciated.

All are welcome to join Mervin’s family at his visitation on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Chaplain Kristen Barnes officiating. Interment will follow the service in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. Mervin’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the interment.
