Michael “Mike” Chad Hamer
A Retired Semi-Professional Race Car Driver -
Michael “Mike” Chad Hamer, age 46, of Etters, passed away at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Hospital on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Mike was born on Tuesday, September 9, 1975, in Mechanicsburg to Willard “Skip” Clark Hamer and the late Karen Mae (Negley) Hamer. In addition to his mother, Mike is preceded in death by his black Lab, Winchester.
Mike’s survivors include his father, Willard “Skip” Clark Hamer; his brother, Heath Clark Hamer and wife, Kelli, of New Cumberland; and his two nephews: Hunter and Kolton Hamer.
Mike graduated from Red Land High School and Cumberland Perry Vo-Tech as part of the class of 1994. He was currently employed by Cumberland Tool and Die in Mechanicsburg as a machinist for many years. He was a member of the James A. Danner VFW Post 537 in Etters, the American Legion Post 998 – Lawnton in Harrisburg, Goldsboro Fire Company and the York County Racing Club. Mike collected HO scale model trains and enjoyed building model cars. He had many close friends and enjoyed spending time with them, especially at cookouts. Mike loved fabricating and building various race car parts and other items. Mike had a passion for dirt track racing. He owned and raced his #47 358 sprint car at many area dirt tracks and competed in USAC events. His family and friends will miss him greatly.
All are welcome to join Mike’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, September 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George A. Spangler officiating. Cremation was private.
