Nancy Demetria (Shafran) Wingert

A Classy Lady -

Nancy Demetria (Shafran) Wingert, 73, of Mechanicsburg died at Country Meadows of the West Shore on Saturday, April 14, 2012.  She was born in Danville on Sunday, December 4, 1938 daughter of the late Metro Shafran and Helen Kravetz Shafran.  Nancy was the widow of Robert Andrew Wingert to whom she was married for 46 years.

Nancy graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1956; she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Shippensburg University and her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. She retired from Cumberland Valley School District , teaching the gifted program for many years at Good Hope Middle School .  Nancy was a long time and very active member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church , Steelton and the Holy Apostles Orthodox Mission , Mechanicsburg.  She was a past president and active member of the Cumberland County Chapter of Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers .  Nancy loved fiercely and loyally and above all was a classy lady.

Nancy’s survivors include her loving daughters: Deborah Wingert Arkin and her husband Elliott of Brooklyn NY, Melanie Wingert Stovin and her husband Jesse of Hamburg NJ; three loving grandchildren: Ava Arkin, Helaina Stovin, Aidan Stovin; two sisters: Elizabeth Lukasavich of Reno NV, Luba Carlson and her husband Robert of Prescott AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to join Nancy’s family for her viewing on Thursday, April 19, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055 with a prayer service to be held at 8:00.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church , 5501 Locust Lane, Harrisburg with Father Timothy E. Hojnicki officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
