Orin “Big O” Franklin Long
A People Person -
Orin “Big O” Franklin Long, age 70, of Mechanicsburg, was freed from his long battle with cancer, with his wife by his side, on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Orin was born on Wednesday, May 3, 1950, in Sunbury, PA to the late Millard Wilson Long and June Dorothy (Snyder) Long.
Orin’s survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jean Louise (Christine) Long; his two children: Josh Long of Mechanicsburg, Brianne Gregory and husband James of Mechanicsburg; his granddaughter, Teagan Gregory of Mechanicsburg; and his sister, Doris Durf and husband Terry of Mechanicsburg.
Orin began working at the Dairy Queen in Steelton at age 16. Thirty-one years later, he became the owner and operator of the same establishment for the next 19 years. Orin was proud of his 50 years of service at the restaurant, and the people there loved him. He was a people person who liked to talk to everyone he met. Orin enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a Johnny Cash fan and his favorite Johnny Cash song was “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”. Orin delighted in all things Disney and trips to Disney World. He was a movie enthusiast and liked genres from horror to comedy to action. Orin and his sister shared movie time together. Orin cherished time spent with his granddaughter Teagan. His family will treasure memories of Orin in their hearts.
Orin’s family will be celebrating his life privately. Private entombment in Rolling Green Cemetery in Camp Hill will be at the family’s convenience.
