Raymond “Ray” T. Erney, Jr.

Raymond “Ray” T. Erney, Jr., age 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022.  Ray was born on Monday, June 24, 1940, in Harrisburg to the late Raymond T. Erney, Sr. and Helen Louise (Gilbert) Erney.

Ray’s survivors include his wife of 58 years, Penelope “Penny” Ann (Kitzmiller) Erney; his two sons: Scott R. Erney and his wife, Suzann; Doug Erney and his significant other, Jeananne Agostinelli; his four grandchildren: Alexa, Quinn, Benjamin and Griffin; and his brother, Dana Erney and his wife, Diana; and several nieces and nephews.

Ray graduated from William Penn High School, earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Juniata College and his Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University.  He served as a teacher and coach at John Harris High School, Palmyra High School, Steelton-Highspire High School, Mechanicsburg High School, Dickinson College, Carlisle High School and Harrisburg High School, and was an athletic director at Mechanicsburg and Carlisle.  Ray also worked at Bumble Bee Hollow Golf Center, was a longtime ski instructor at Ski Roundtop and was a member of Shepherdstown United Methodist Church.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

All are welcome to join Ray’s family at his celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory).  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.  Cremation was private.

While Ray's family will not be accepting flowers, they invite those wishing to celebrate Ray's life with a memorial contribution to make them to MAABC – Golf Boosters, c/o Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School, 500 South Broad Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
