It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard "Rich" John Gajewski, Mechanicsburg, Pa, who left this world on March 1, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on February 7, 1937 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of service, love and laughter.
Rich was married to his beloved wife, Carolyn H. Gajewski, for an extraordinary 67 years. Their partnership was a testament to love and companionship, having navigated life’s journey together until Carolyn's passing just two weeks prior to his own.
Richard attended Knoxville High School in Pittsburgh before entering the US Marine Corps in 1954. He proudly served his country as a Sargeant until 1957, continuing in the Reserves until 1962.
Richard began his working career in the cleaning business; he advanced to Vice President at Majestic Window Cleaners in Bellefonte and later Harrisburg, Pa. He served as the Head of Housekeeping at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa for many years before retirement. His commitment to hard work was evident as he continued to work part time into his late '70s.
Richard was a past member of the Moose Lodge #206 in Bellefonte. He was a longstanding member of the American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Richard had many interests in life, he enjoyed playing golf and playing cards. He shared a passion for dancing with Carolyn; they were often the first couple on the dance floor as the music started, coaxing others to join them.
Richard loved to travel and meet new people along the way. He loved sharing stories of their constant travels to Mexico, the Caribbean and within the US.
No one was ever a stranger to Richard, he struck up conversations with anyone, anywhere. His engaging personality and infectious sense of humor will be dearly missed.
Richard is survived by his two sons, David (Susie) and Daniel (Megan). He also leaves behind numerous nieces/nephews and grandnieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna (Babinskas) Gajewski; and his sisters Barbara Macurak and Sylvia Philips.
In lieu of flowers, donations on his behalf can be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
Any future memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.
