Richard “Rich” Alcide Lavertue
Loved by Many -
Richard “Rich” Alcide Lavertue, age 75, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, April 23, 2021, after a long battle with lung cancer. Rich was born on Saturday, May 19, 1945, in Manchester, NH to the late Alcide Armond Lavertue and Ernestine Grace (Anderson) Lavertue.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janis “Jan” Louise (Bomgardner) Lavertue; his son, Richard “Rich” A. Lavertue, II and wife, Mary, of New Cumberland; his daughter, Nicole “Nicci” E. Lavertue and husband, Stan Gora, of Duncannon; his brother, David Lavertue and wife, Anna, of Mechanicsburg; his two grandsons: Richard A. Lavertue III and Ayden Gora; and his granddaughter, Zayla Gora.
Richard graduated from Hershey High School as a part of the class of 1963; he also attended the last class of Hershey Junior College. He served in PA National Guard for eight years, at the Hershey Armory. Richard was at one time employed by Carlisle Tire and Rubber. He then went to C.H. Reed, in Hanover, PA on February 18, 1974. He retired from there on May 26, 2014 as the Director of Engineering. Richard and Janis were high school sweethearts. Combining high school and college years, they dated for seven years and will have been married 54 years in July; together 61 years total. Richard truly was the love of Janis's life; they enjoyed camping, fishing, and many other outdoor activities together. He also enjoyed playing golf and attending car races. He was a hunter, but did not care if he got a deer. It was the comradery of deer camp, and being outdoors and hunting with our son, grandson, and friends. He also enjoyed time spent with family, traveling across the country, off-roading, spending time at the shore with our daughter and two grandsons and granddaughter, and all other family activities. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Richard was very intelligent, which he showed every day at work or while teaching the grandchildren many topics. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
Love you forever Richard,
Janis.
