Robert Lewis Treaster, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Born on February 17, 1944, in Lewistown, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a genuine warmth that touched everyone he met.
A proud veteran, Bob served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career with the Department of General Services, where he devoted over 25 years of his life. His strong sense of duty extended well beyond his professional life; he was deeply committed to his community through his longstanding involvement with local fire companies. Bob faithfully served as Financial Secretary for the Penbrook Fire Company for 34 years and held the position of Captain of the Penbrook Fire Police for 27 years. His membership in the Yeagertown Fire Company further reflected his dedication to public service.
Bob was also actively involved in veterans' organizations, being a valued member of the Robert Burns Lodge Post 0464, American Legion Post 0730, and VFW Post 1718. These affiliations underscored his deep connection to his fellow servicemen and women.
An alumnus of Chief Logan High School and Central Penn Business School, Bob was not only devoted to service but also to lifelong learning. Known for his genial spirit, Bob always had a smile on his face and delighted in making others laugh with a well-timed joke. His passions included hunting and traveling, with a particular fondness for cruises, revealing his zest for life and exploration.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Treaster, who shared in the joys and challenges of life alongside him. He also leaves behind his brothers, Larry and Jim Treaster, and sister, Judy Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his kindness and humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and Luther Treaster; brothers Richard, Walter, and Gerald; and sisters Linda and Donna.
The family invites all who knew Bob to join in remembering his life and legacy at the following services:
Visitation will be held on May 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral and Cremation, LTD., located at 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055. The funeral service will follow from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the same location.
A memorial gathering will take place afterward at Buhrig's Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., providing an opportunity for family and friends to share stories and celebrate Bob’s life.
The burial service will be conducted at Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011, beginning at 2:30 p.m. and concluding by 3:00 p.m.
Robert Lewis Treaster’s life exemplified commitment, humor, and heartfelt service to his community and country. His memory will endure in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love him.
