Robert “Bob” George Shifflet

Led a Legacy of Military Service -

Robert “Bob” George Shifflet, age 78, of East Berlin, passed away at home with his family present on Friday, December 10, 2021, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and dementia.  Bob was born on Tuesday, December 22, 1942, in Derry Township to the late George Robert Shifflet and Mildred “Millie” (Sanders) Shifflet.

Bob’s survivors include his wife of 51 years, Deborah Elizabeth (Crozier) Shifflet; his three children: Brandy Zimmerman and husband, Shawn, and their daughter, Gabby, of Mechanicsburg, PA, Brian Shifflet and wife, Lori, and their children: Corbin and Aubrey, of Niceville, FL, Chad Shifflet and wife, Angela, and their children: Logan and Mason, of Mechanicsburg, PA; his three siblings: Mike Shifflet of FL, Tom Shifflet of Harrisburg, PA, Karen Alderfer and husband, Dale, of Souderton, PA; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved Newfoundland dog, Jaxon.

Bob graduated from Hummelstown High School as part of the class of 1960.  Immediately following graduation, Bob joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as an avionics specialist during active duty.  He then enlisted in the Army National Guard and served as a military police officer.  Bob continued to serve in the Air National Guard with the 201 Red Horse Squadron at Fort Indiantown Gap until retiring in 2002.  He followed in the footsteps of his ancestors and led a legacy of military service.  Both of Bob’s sons, Brian and Chad, and some of his grandchildren have continued this family legacy, of which Bob was very proud of.

He retired from SCI Camp Hill, after 23 years of service working as a corrections officer and records specialist.  Bob, along with his “brothers”, promoted the greater good of the community and honoring his fellow Marines as a member of the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Marine Corps League Honor Guard.  For about 10 years, Bob and his wife, Deborah, ran their company, Three Dogs Barking, LLC, which made frozen treats for dogs such as, Kody Kups.  Bob was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Berlin.  He was also a member of VFW South Mountain Post 6771, American Legion Post 26, and Eureka - West Shore Lodge No. 302.  As a fan of big band music, Bob enjoyed going to Naylor Wine Cellars in Stewartstown to dance a Saturday night away with Deborah.  At the end of the day, family was at the center of Bob’s world; he truly treasured the time spent and memories made with them.

All are welcome to join Bob’s family at his viewing on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.  Bob’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the viewing at 11:15 a.m. with a time of remembrance to begin at 12:15 p.m.  Burial will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, where military honors will be presented.
