A Woman of Strong Faith -

Ruth Naomi (Harro) Lenker, age 82, of Mechanicsburg, went home on Thursday, December 3, 2020.  Ruth was born on Saturday, March 19, 1938, in Lewisberry to the late Alton E. Harro and Katheryn Elisabeth (Snyder) Harro.  In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Anne Lenker; and several brothers and sisters.

Ruth’s survivors include her husband of 65 years, George “Pete” William Lenker; her three children: George Lenker, Jr. of Franklintown, Richard Lenker of Shiremanstown, Dorothy “Dottie” Traver and husband Ronald of Lewisberry; her five grandchildren: Tonya Traver of Lewisberry, Matt Lenker and wife Amy of Gettysburg, Luke Lenker and wife Nicole of Mechanicsburg, April Lenker of Harrisburg, Tina Leinberger and husband Casey of Lewisberry; her nine great-grandchildren: Macenzi Lenker, Dakota Lenker, Andrew Lenker, Blake Lenker, Kiley Alleman, Ashlynne Lenker, Chase Lenker, Jaxon Lenker, Kaiden Alleman; her four sisters: Rhoda Brown of York Haven, Martha Hollinger and husband Harold of Lewisberry, Mary Crocker and husband Marvin of CA, Opal Beitler and husband Grant of PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a lifelong member of Crossroads Independent Church in Lewisberry, where she served as an Elder, taught Sunday school, and played the piano.  She grew up in that church and later met the man who she would wed on May 22, 1955.  Ruth was a woman of strong faith and always made sure her grandchildren went to church each Sunday with her.  Every Thursday, at the Franklintown & Community Fire Company, Ruth would attend the Bluegrass Jam sessions.  She loved listening to Bluegrass Gospel music and praising the Lord.  Ruth was well known for raspberry custard pies that she made for the holidays and Lisburn Community Fire Company’s Annual Festival.  She was a member of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association, Inc. in Mechanicsburg.  Ruth worked as a secretary for over 60 years by helping with the family business, George Lenker Welding.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and reading her Bible.  Ruth also liked tending to her flowers and feeding the birds.  Ruth’s family and grandchildren filled her world with joy and happiness; they truly were the loves of her life.

All are welcome to join Ruth’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and, via internet or telephone, for her virtual gathering from 12:00 p.m. until time of virtual viewing at 12:15 p.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m.; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating.  Burial in Crossroads Cemetery in Lewisberry will be private and at the convenience of the family.
