Ruth “Wea” Ellen Hammond, age 56, of Mechanicsburg passed away at Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.  Ruth was born on Wednesday, March 3, 1965, in Lewisburg to the late Edwin “Stan” Stanton Hammond and Patricia Ann (long) Hammond.

Ruth’s survivors include her brother: Edwin “Ed” Charles Hammond of Mechanicsburg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ruth graduated from the West Shore School District in 1983 and Harrisburg Area Community College in 1985.  She was employed by the Department of Labor & Industry, Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety in Harrisburg as a clerk.  Ruth was a long-time member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg.  Ruth loved to keep track of the weather and endeavored to keep updated on current conditions. She had an uncanny knack for recalling the day of the week for any date given to her; and she had a passion for solving crossword puzzles. Most recently, Ruth was fascinated with flowers and would photograph them on her travels around Mechanicsburg.  She loved to share them with family and friends.  Ruth was a kind and gentle soul that was always soft spoken. Her brother, Ed, and the rest of her family will miss her greatly.

Ruth’s family will be celebrating her life privately.  Interment in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.
