Susan McCeney Anderson

Susan McCeney Anderson of Shippensburg, PA passed away on August 28, 2026. Susan was born in Washington, D.C. on October 10, 1951, to Buchanan McCeney and Eleanor Dickman, both deceased. She grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland and graduated from Blair High School in Silver Spring in 1969. Upon graduation, she attended Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

After college she began a career as a special education teacher. Susan married Evans Anderson in 1973 and they moved to Atlanta, GA starting a family with the birth of their first child Evans Jr. in 1977, Thomas Benjamin in 1980 and Christine Marie in 1983. The Anderson's moved back to the D.C. area in 1989 residing in Rockville, MD until 2004 and Thurmont, MD thereafter. Upon Evans death in 2013, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland and then to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. 

Susan was a loving wife, mother, teacher and friend. At her best, she was a force of nature. She was a talented artist, a voracious reader, a kind and compassionate caregiver, and had a witty sense of humor that kept her family on their toes and laughing. Perhaps most of all, Susan will be remembered by her children and the many friends who grew up alongside them for the loving and welcoming home she created-a place where the door was always open and there was always room for one more. She made dinners for whoever happened to be there, made sure extra beds were ready when friends needed a place to stay, and somehow always had plenty of brownies and ice cream to end the day. She had a gift for making people feel cared for, comfortable, and at home, and in doing so created a place filled with warmth, laughter, and memories that her family and so many others will carry with them.

Immediate survivors include her children Evans K. Anderson Jr. (Jane), Thomas Benjamin Anderson (Erin) and Dr. Christine Marie Anderson (Aaron Platshon); and her grandchildren, Evans, Morgan, Caroline, Alice, Evelyn, Annie and Adam. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Interment in Arlington National Cemetery, with her husband, Evans, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
