A Dedicated Teacher -

Susan Carol (Risheill) Baldwin, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 2, 2023.  Susan was born on Thursday, July 10, 1941, in Reading to the late Robert Edward Risheill and Katherine Jane (Neider) Risheill.  In addition to her parents, Susan is preceded in death by her beloved sister Jane Guensch.

Susan’s survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Dr. Eugene “Gene” Millard Brautigam-Baldwin; her three children: Wayne Andrew Baldwin of Daytona Beach, FL, Aimee Lou Sims of Harrisburg, Jennifer Ann Swinchock and husband, Scott, of Camp Hill; her two grandsons: Joshua Delbert Sims and wife, Kerry; and Zachary Baldwin Sims and fiancé, Kayla; and her precious great-granddaughter: Rosemary Sky Sims.

Susan graduated from Reading High School as part of the class of 1959 and from Kutztown University in 1963 with a degree in Elementary Education.  She retired from Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg, after many years of teaching at Hampden Elementary school.  Susan was a long-time member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill, where she served as Sunday school teacher and on the altar guild.  Susan was a member of PSEA and PSERS – Cumberland County Chapter. She loved to travel.  Susan and Gene traveled all over the world; including the Vatican, Panama Canal, Russia, many Mediterranean countries, and many other exotic destinations.  She also loved going to the beach, and spent many summers enjoying the sun, surf and sand in the Outer Banks.  When she wasn’t traveling or teaching her young students, Susan enjoyed putting puzzles together, cross stitch, and reading romance novels and mysteries.  Susan was known as an excellent cook and prepared many delicious meals for her family and friends. Despite her career and active lifestyle, her family was her true love, and she devoted much of her time to her family.  She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
