Vivian Jane Souders Shively

Vivian Jane Souders Shively, 87, of Mechanicsburg died Monday, May 16, 2011 at home where the angels came to lead her to heaven. She was surrounded by her loving family and died peacefully and in their company, as she wished it to be.

Vivian was born December 1, 1923 in Altoona the daughter of the late Charles E. and Alga J. (Nearhood) Burkhart. She was the widow of Frederick A. Souders, Sr. who she married on June 14, 1942 and to whom she was married for 44 years and the widow of David G. Shively who she married on September 10, 1988 and to whom she was married for 21 years. Vivian graduated from Altoona High School.

Vivian is survived by one son: Frederick “Fred” A. Souders II and his wife and loving daughter-in-law Dianne of Mechanicsburg; four sisters: Catherine Taylor of Liverpool; Dorothy Colebaugh and her husband David of Charleston SC; Joan Brandt and her husband Ed of FL; Ann Hess of CT; three step-children: Rebecca Bailey and her husband Jeff; Christina Poulin; Harry Mensch and his wife Terry; one brother: Chuck Burkhart and his wife Pat of Thompsontown; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by one twin sister: Marian Westbrook and one step-son: Carey Shively.

All are welcome to join Vivian’s family at her viewing on Saturday from Noon until time of service at 2:00 at Myers–Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory , 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055, (717) 766-3421, www.Myers-Buhrig.com . Pastor Martin Romain and Pastor Del Keeney will officiate and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Mifflinburg.
