William Henry Harvey, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026, in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Born on February 9, 1947, in Harrisburg, Bill's life was a testament to dedication, adventure, and love for family and community.

Bill’s journey began in the halls of Camp Hill High School, where he lettered in football, showcasing an early passion for sports and teamwork. He furthered his education at Fork Union Military Academy before graduating from Iowa Wesleyan University in 1970, where he was an avid athlete, participating in several collegiate sports. His love for sports endured throughout his life, fueling his enthusiasm as a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State, and his active involvement as a member of the VFW.

Professionally, Bill dedicated himself to education and physical fitness. After teaching for a year in Monticello, New York, and another year in Scotland—a period marked by extensive travels across the British Isles and Europe—he settled into a long and impactful career as a Physical Education teacher within the Harrisburg School District. He retired in 2007, continuing to serve his community by working security at the Giant headquarters, exemplifying his strong work ethic and commitment to those around him.

Bill’s vibrant interests extended beyond sports. He found joy in dancing and attending live band performances, embracing the rhythms of life with the same passion he brought to every aspect of his existence. Above all, Bill was a man who loved his family deeply, a love that was evident in the cherished relationships he nurtured throughout his lifetime.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Lilley Bender;  daughters Stephanie and Michele Harvey; and treasured grandchildren Sasha, Sara, Serenity, Joseph, and Quinn. Bill’s familial legacy also includes his brother Paul (Julie) Harvey and sisters Lillian (Charlie) Hall and Agnes (Steve) Schneider. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Susan Harvey.  Bill’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his best friend, Jim Whetstone, whose unwavering support meant so much during Bill’s final days. Special thanks are also due to Silver Spring Personal Care Home and Pinnacle Hospice for their compassionate care, which provided comfort and dignity to Bill and his family.
