Willie Earl
Hires
Jun 25, 1949 — Jun 21, 2026
Willie Earl Hires, 76, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026.
Born on June 25, 1949, in Live Oak, Florida, Willie was the son of the late Daisy Bell Hires Goddard and Benjamin F. Hires, Jr. He lived a life defined by service, education, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
Willie proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and retired with the rank of Captain. He believed that education opened doors and created opportunities, a belief he demonstrated throughout his life by earning degrees from Southern University, the University of Southern California, Louisiana State University, and Capella University.
A lifelong learner, Willie had a passion for technology, mathematics, and science. He loved exploring new ideas, asking questions, and finding answers. Whether he was discussing the latest technology, solving a problem, or sharing a fact he had recently learned, his enthusiasm for knowledge was contagious. He also enjoyed traveling and embraced every opportunity to experience the world beyond his front door.
More than his accomplishments, Willie will be remembered for who he was. He had a sharp wit, a warm smile, and a unique ability to make people think, laugh, and see things from a different perspective. He loved a good conversation and never missed an opportunity to teach, encourage, or challenge those around him to keep learning.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dione V. Morris (Marcus), Caren A. Crutchfield, Stacy D. Jackson, eight beloved grandchildren; his sister, JoeAnn Streeter; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel B. Gordon, and his brothers, Benjamin F. Hires, III, and Jerome D. Hires.
Willie's life was a testament to the value of education, service, and lifelong curiosity. The lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and the love he gave to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Willie will be interred with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401, www.pcf.org or MPT Foundation, Inc. 11767 Owings Mill Blvd, Owings Mill, MD 21117, www.mpt.org.
