Anna Cecilia (Kumelesky) Skasko, age 99, of Elizabethtown, and formerly of Mahanoy City, passed away at Masonic Village of Elizabethtown on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  Anna was born on Tuesday, January 13, 1920, in Mahanoy City, PA to the late Boleslav Kumelesky and Veronica (Krizonovski) Kumelesky.  Anna was the widow of World War II veteran, Joseph Skasko, whom she married on February 9, 1946, and who died on April 6, 1993.  In addition to her parents and husband, Anna is preceded in death by her four brothers:  Joseph, John, and twin infants; and her three sisters, Helen Belease, Mary Powell, and Stella Eberhart.

Anna’s survivors include her one son: Joseph C. Skasko and his wife, Marilyn, and her one daughter: Mary Ann Pupo and her husband, Edward; her one grandson: Jesse T. Schimmer, his wife Janene, their three children Hailey, Thomas, and Jameson; her one granddaughter:  Sara S. Firestone, her husband, William, their two children, Addison and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Byzantine Rite in Mahanoy City for over 50 years, where she volunteered her services, cleaning and working in the kitchen to prepare food for church carnivals and other events.  In her long and full life, Anna took care of many people, for she believed in helping anyone in need.

All are welcome to join Anna’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Friday, May 10, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until time of The Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 621 West Mahanoy Street, Mahanoy City, PA 17948; with Rev. James Carroll celebrating.  Cremation and interment in Sky-View Memorial Park in Tamaqua, PA will be private.

The family sends its most heartfelt thanks to the staff on Ben Franklin Skilled Nursing Facility Floor 3 and everyone at Masonic Village at Elizabethtown who so lovingly cared for Anna during the past three years.

Contributions in celebration of Anna’s life can be made to St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 621 West Mahanoy Street, Mahanoy City, PA 17948.
