Arvella “Arvy” Olive (Bordner) Grimm

The Family Historian -

Arvella “Arvy” Olive (Bordner) Grimm, age 94, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021.  Arvy was born on Tuesday, November 9, 1926, in Hunters Station to the late Clarence Fredrick Bordner and Verna Mae (Raker) Bordner-Paul.  Arvy was the widow of Allen Lee Grimm, whom she married on May 3, 1947, and who died on June 14, 2018.  In addition to her parents and husband, Arvy is preceded in death by her two brothers: Belford “Hap” Bordner, Charles Bordner; her half-brother, Lyman Paul; and her half-sister, Hazel Raker.

Arvy’s survivors include her two daughters: JoAnn “Jody” Deardorff and husband, J. Richard, of North Canton, OH, Christy “Chris” Lee Phelan of Queensbury, NY; her four grandchildren: Erin Ziesmer and husband, Scott, Melissa Garris and husband, Jake, Brent Deardorff and wife, Courtney, Loren Miller and husband, Derek; her nine great-grandchildren: Addisyn, Ascher, and Ari Miller, Brailee, Cora, Bastian, and Arden Deardorff, Norah and Olive Garris; her half-brother, Terry Paul and wife, Arlene, of Wilkes-Barre; and  several nieces and nephews.

Arvy graduated from Treverton High School.  She was a charter member of Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, where she often helped make Easter eggs for fundraising efforts.  Arvy enjoyed reading, putting puzzles together, sewing, and crafting.  As the family historian and a woman with an incredible memory, Arvy would gather family members and discuss their genealogy.  Arvy was a fantastic cook with quite the recipe collection; her daughters always knew who to call for some cooking advice.  She made delicious meals for her family, on holidays and all other special gatherings.  Avry’s devotion to her family was evident and she cherished the time that she spent with all of them.

Arvy’s family will be celebrating her life privately.  Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to her niece, Sue and nephew, John who so lovingly cared for Arvy during her illness.
