Betty “Barby” Jane (Smith) Smith

A Faithful Servant of God -

Betty “Barby” Jane (Smith) Smith, age 84, of Mechanicsburg, entered into her new life on Thursday, November 19, 2020, where she is now singing and dancing, with celebration, as she was welcomed into the arms of the Lord.  Betty Barb, as she was often called, was born in the hills of Whitesville, West Virginia on Friday, January 24, 1936 to the late Clyde Edwen Smith and Ruby Mae (Jarrell) Smith.  In addition to her parents, Barb is preceded in death by her brother and two sisters.

She will always be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert E. Smith, Sr., with whom she recently celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage; her two sons: Robert E. Smith, Jr. and wife Debi of Carlisle, William F. Smith and wife Wendy of Mechanicsburg; her three daughters: Deborah Rees and husband Randy of Cabool, MO, Sharon Nelson and husband Mark of Mechanicsburg, Lori A. Himes of East Berlin, PA.  Barby, the ultimate mother to all, always cherished her time with her family.  She adored her 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.  Barb is also survived by her three brothers: Edgel Smith of Antioch, CA, Walter Smith of Portland, OR, Larry Smith of Hickory, NC; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty Barb touched many lives in carrying out her calling to serve the Lord. She was an active member of the Mechanicsburg First Church of God for over 60 years.  Barb, always young at heart, especially enjoyed sharing the word of God with children while teaching Monday Night Bible School for more than 40 years.  Barb loved to sing praise to the Lord as a member of the church choir both at church and throughout local community nursing facilities.  She received great pleasure volunteering to serve others on the Church of God Council, at Camp YoliJwa and Seidle Memorial Hospital.  “Barby”, “Betty”, “Betty Barb”, “Betty Jane”, “Bobby Jane”, “Mom”, “Grandma”, was loved by all who knew her.  God has lost a most faithful servant on earth, yet gained the most wonderful angel in Heaven.  She is now singing his praises in our hearts forever.  All that knew Barb will always be blessed by how she touched our lives.  Betty Barb is truly at peace with the Lord.
