Christopher “Chris” Dettrey, age 64, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully while being comforted by his loving family on Saturday, January 1, 2022.  Chris was born on Tuesday, September 17, 1957, in Harrisburg to the late Frederick J. Dettrey and Dorothy May (Pennebaker) Dettrey.   In addition to his parents, Chris is preceded in death by his sister, Lillian and his beloved canine companion, Rocky.

Chris’s survivors include his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Ann (Gaiski) Dettrey; his two sons: Jason “Jay” A. Dettrey of Pennsylvania and William A. Dettrey and wife, Amelia, of Washington; his four grandchildren: Vanessa Dettrey, Alex Dettrey, Ethan Dettrey, and Elliott Dettrey; his four siblings: Eric Dettrey and wife, Keena Coburn, of Georgia; James Dettrey of California; Grace Nordai and husband, Richard,  of Pennsylvania; and Della Kattner of Missouri; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline companion: Carlie.

Chris graduated from Harrisburg High School as part of the class of 1976.  He retired from New Penn Trucking in Camp Hill, after many years of service working as a truck driver.  Chris was a fan of sprint car racing and volunteered to be one of the helpers that adjusted one teams race car to run its best during the race.  He was an avid supporter of Penn State University Football and loved to watch them play on Saturday afternoons. Chris enjoyed genealogy and made many friends while researching his family’s history.  Chris had a wonderful personality and loved to chat with people. He was known to be able to talk to anyone about anything.  Chris and Liz enjoyed making wine together.  Chris held a Vice President position at the Susquehanna Winemakers Guild of Pennsylvania for multiple years helping and learning from others how to do their best at winemaking.  He was slated to be President to the guild in 2022.  Chris had many interests and talents; although woodworking was his true passion.  He loved to go into his shop and create items for his family and friends.  He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Chris’s family will be remembering his life privately.  Cremation was private.
