Devoted to His Family -

Commander Michael “Mike” Eugene Cuddington USN (Ret.), age 80, of Parkville, MD, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.  Mike was born on Monday, July 15, 1940, in Chicago, IL to the late Genevieve Estelle (Cichomska) Jones.  In addition to his mother, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Cuddington.

Mikes’s survivors include his son: Todd Michael Cuddington and wife, Jennifer, of Durham, NC and daughter Lori Michelle Adams of Mechanicsburg; his four grandchildren: Luke Joseph Adams, Logan Eli Adams, Cassandra Simone Cuddington, and Alexis Colette Cuddington; his three siblings: William Cuddington and wife, Nina, of Frederick, MD, Susan Cascio and husband, Phil, of Ocean City, MD, and Mary Lou Joy of Parkville, MD; and his fifteen nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from Calvert Hall High School as part of the class of 1958, and subsequently joined the United States Marine Corps.  While serving, he was singled out for his talents and potential, and given the opportunity to test for acceptance into the US Naval Academy. He was accepted and graduated with distinction in 1966, having risen to the position of Regimental Commander.  Upon graduation Mike served at sea aboard the USS Porterfield in the Vietnam conflict, and later the USS Nantahala before moving on the the US Navy Reserve and beginning his professional civilian career.

Mike earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Penn State University through nightschool while continuing his fulltime career.  After his retirement from the United States Navy Reserve as a Commander, he retired from AMP (Tyco), after more than 30 years of service working as a systems analyst, department head, and program manager.  Mike was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy; it’s traditions, rituals and customs became part of his identity.  There were few things he enjoyed more than bringing family members to a football game at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.  Mike had a passion for music; he played the saxophone, loved to listen to jazz and big-band, and attended the Baltimore Symphony regularly.  Many cherished moments were spent at his beach house in Ocean Pines, MD.  He volunteered at Trinity High School for many years even after Todd and Lori had graduated. Mike was a very involved grandfather, who was present at his grandchildren’s activities. He also loved having family games night’s where everyone would gather to play both board games and card games.  Family poker nights were his favorite.  His family will greatly miss his love and devotion.
