Darlene Marie Hess

Darlene Marie Hess, loving wife and mother, passed away on November 30, 2020.  Darlene was born on January 18, 1945 in Carlisle PA.  Upon graduation from Carlisle High School, she attended Messiah College where she earned a degree in Religious Education.

Darlene was married to Richard L. Hess for 55 years. They raised three children in Mechanicsburg, PA.

Darlene served as the Christian Education Director and directed the Children’s Choir at Calvary United Methodist Church in Lemoyne, PA for many years. She was employed in Nursing Home Administration as the Administrator of Leader Nursing home, Greenridge Village, Oak Leaf Manor, and Patriot Manor.

As a Girl Scout Leader for Troop 611 for over a decade, she had a positive influence on the lives of many young women.  Her “can do” attitude served her well.  One of the many highlights from Girl Scouts was that Darlene organized a 21-day trek to Wyoming for the National Jamboree.  Upon retirement, Darlene became a volunteer with the Boy Scouts.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, spending time at the beach and volunteering as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill through the Fellowship Committee.   Darlene was a talented vocalist and performed in several lead roles in musicals at Messiah College and elsewhere.  Darlene will be remembered by many for her beautiful voice.

Darlene is survived by her husband Richard L. Hess, Sr., a son Richard L. Hess Jr, two daughters Deann M. Servos, (Mark Servos) and Pamela S. Hess, a sister Marian Miller, a brother Gerald Witmer, and five grandchildren Harrison, Jeralynn, and Daniel Servos, Joshua and Alex Easley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Boy Scouts - New Birth of Freedom Pioneer District.

Darlene’s funeral and interment services will be announced at a later date while family and friends are encouraged to remain safely at home.  Cremation was private.
