Enola

Elizabeth “Betsy” (Kirk) Drayer

Elizabeth “Betsy” (Kirk) Drayer, age 73, of Enola, died at home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.  Betsy was born on Friday, August 16, 1946 in Harrisburg to the late George Samuel Kirk, Sr. and Edith (Rigby) Kirk.  Betsy was the widower Edwin “Barry” Drayer, whom she married on January 7, 1965, and who died on March 10, 2006.  In addition to her parents and husband, Betsy is preceded in death by her infant son.

Betsy’s survivors include her three daughters: Wendy Jo Korte of Texas, Sheri Lynn Humes of Laughlintown, and Shannon Cockrell and her husband, Frank, of Mechanicsburg; her four grandchildren: John Edward Shilling, III, Derek Hollingsworth, Brett Simmons, Brandon Korte; her five great-grandchildren: Drayden, Alayna, Sebastian, Charlie, Violette; her brother: George Samuel Kirk, Jr.; and her beloved canine companion, Bentley.

Besides having a love for her family and canine companion, Bentley; Betsy loved the beach. She met her lifelong friends, Rose and Mary Jane, whom she spent many days soaking up the sun on the beach every summer. She loved to take yearly vacations with her youngest daughter, Shannon, to many warm and sunny destinations. The most recent memorable destination was to England to meet her cousins and to celebrate her 70th birthday. Betsy’s cousin Mary Jane and her daughter Shannon planned a surprise birthday party without her knowing. Christmas was one of Betsy's favorite holidays. She loved to decorate her home with snowmen, of all shapes and sizes. She will be greatly missed this Christmas and every holiday to come. Betsy was the best friend and mother, a daughter could ever ask for; and will be missed beyond words, by her three daughters. Her four grandsons will miss her for the advice that she gave to them and her way of making them feel loved no matter what.

Betsy’s family will be remembering her life privately.  Scattering will be at the family’s convenience.  Cremation was private.

Contributions in celebration of Betsy’s life can be made to Delaware State Park, Indian River Inlet, 39415 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
