Emma Jane (Hoy) Whitcomb

Emma Jane (Hoy) Whitcomb, age 86, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022.  Emma was born on Sunday, September 8, 1935, in Mechanicsburg to the late Nevin Bruce Hoy and Florence Catherine (Wagner) Hoy.  Emma was the widow of Donald Eugene Whitcomb, whom she married on June 22, 1958, and who died on November 15, 1997.

Emma’s survivors include her brother, George W. Hoy of Mechanicsburg; her sister, Arlene K. Hoy of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1953.  She retired from Weis Markets, Inc. in Mechanicsburg and Highland Park, after 27 years of service working as a cashier.  Emma was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg and a member of Mechanicsburg American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).  Emma liked to travel and enjoyed visiting the 48 contiguous states.  In her spare time, she partook in crafting, coloring, cooking and baking; she also found joy in collecting various salt and pepper shakers.  Emma will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

All are welcome to join Emma’s family at her viewing on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:45 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Dr. Dennis Keller officiating.  Emma’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place (next to the funeral home) immediately following the service.  Burial will follow the reception in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle.
