A Man of Deep Faith -

Gary Edward Monighan, age 70, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at UPMC Shadyside Hospital near Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 29, 2020.  Gary was born on Thursday, December 8, 1949, in Harrisburg to Edward Howard Monighan, age 94, and Olga (Barlow) Monighan, age 91.

Gary’s survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann (Otto) Monighan; his two sons: Sean Alan Monighan and wife, Johanna, of Mechanicsburg; Joshua Arron Monighan and wife, Jennifer Lynn, of Mechanicsburg; his five grandchildren: Matthaeus, Isacc, Brodie, Dylan and Lydia; and his brother, Dennis Monighan of Lewisberry.

Gary graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1967.  He served his country proudly and honorably in the United States Army.  He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, South Carolina an Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where he received training as a medic.  The rest of his tour of duty was spent in the Army at the Second General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.  After his time in the military, Gary trained in heating and air conditioning repair.  He worked for Landis Mobile Home Supplies and later started a partnership with Maynard Cassel called ICW.  In 1983, he started another partnership with Paul Otto, named G.P.S. Mobile Modular Co. Inc., which specialized in manufactured housing.  He was still working at G.P.S. until his health failed.  Gary has been undergoing treatments since March.  Gary had attended Shiremanstown First Church of God, where he served as Sunday school teacher; the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was presently very active in the Sabbath Day Fellowship in Mechanicsburg.  Gary was a member of American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg and a life member of Foreign Wars Auxiliary to VFW Post 4643 in Satellite Beach, Florida.  He also assisted with construction projects at the Mt. Olivet Camp Meeting in Dillsburg, where he was a cottage owner and attended camp meetings there.  Gary loved being in the outdoors and especially loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends.  He had a God given talent for working with his hands.  Gary could fix almost anything and enjoyed wood working.  He was always kind and helpful to those in need, which emanated from his deep faith in the Lord God Almighty and his son Jesus Christ.  He loved his family dearly, and his family will miss his love and devotion.
