A Mother to Everybody -

Gwendolyn “Gwen” “Gwennie” (Hobba) Seese, age 92, of Dillsburg, and formerly of Geistown, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, September 13, 2021.  Gwen was born on Saturday, October 27, 1928 in Salix to the late Raymond Hobba and Ivadene (Machtley) Hobba.  Gwen was the widow of Clyde Alvin Seese, whom she married on November 13, 1948, and who died on February 18, 2001.  In addition to her parents and husband, Gwen is preceded in death by her brother, Gerald Hobba.

Gwen’s survivors include her three children: Elaine Handel and husband, Lou, of Elton, Daniel “Dan” Seese and wife, Halina “Helen”, of Pittsburgh, Janet Seese of Dillsburg; her four grandchildren: Tina Nagle and husband, Shawn, of Johnstown, Gregory Seese and wife, Kristi, of Murrysville, Major Michael Seese of Kansas City, MO, Charles Handel and wife, Tania, of Summer Hill; her four great-grandchildren: Kevin Nagle of Johnstown, Susan Handel of Maryland, Emily Seese of Murrysville, Ella Seese of Murrysville; her two great-great grandsons: Atlas and Percy Nagle;  her four brothers: Kenneth Hobba and wife, Patricia, of Dover, Barry Hobba and wife, Rosemary, of Warwick, RI, Richard Hobba of Mechanicsburg, Curtis Hobba and wife, Deborah, of Carlisle; and her three sisters: Marion Streletz of Hagerstown, MD, Joan Miller and husband, Raymond, of New Paris, and Wanda Joyce of Mechanicsburg.

Gwen graduated from Windber High School.  She was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Johnstown, where she taught Bible and Sunday school, played on the Bowling League, sang with the choir, and was a part of the United Methodist Women.  Since 2018, Gwen was a member of Dillsburg Community Church.  She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader, often finishing a book every other day.  Gwen also liked gardening and tending to her flowers.  She was quite the talented cook and baker.  Everyone looked forward to her homemade gobs, nut rolls, and sour potato soup.  As the oldest child and daughter, Gwennie assumed the role of matriarch of the Hobba family following the passing of her parents.  She would quickly become a mother to everybody.  Gwen loved her family and some of her happiest times were when the whole family was gathered together at her home.  She always looked forward to hosting the extended family gatherings at her house.

All are welcome to join Gwen’s family at her gathering and greeting of family and friends on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. until her memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Dillsburg Community Church, 412 Mountain Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019; with Pastor Lori Riggs officiating.  Gwen’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church immediately following the service.  Interment in Richland Cemetery in Johnstown will be at a later date.  Cremation was private.
