Loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother -

Jeanne Ruth (Morey) Johnson, age 67, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 23, 2021.  Jeanne was born on Wednesday, November 4, 1953 in Hinsdale, IL to the late Howard Thomas Morey and Joyce Meredith (Helmer) Morey.  In addition to her parents, Jeanne is preceded in death by her brother, John Morey.

Jeanne’s survivors include her husband of 44 years, Roger Dennis Johnson; her three children: Katie Hamlin and husband, Darin, and their three children: Brendan, Asher, and Elisa of Takoma Park, MD, Erik Johnson and wife, Patience Blake, and their two children: Luna and Linden of Hershey, Megan Johnson of Shelburne Falls, MA; her brother, Douglas Morey and wife, Martha, of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

Jeanne graduated from Hinsdale Central High School as part of the class of 1971 and from Northern Illinois University in 1975 with a degree in Art Education.  She worked in the field of art education for many years teaching lessons both privately and in the public school systems.  Jeanne attended Mechanicsburg Brethren In Christ, West Shore Evangelical Free, and Grantham Brethren in Christ.  She was a signature member of The National Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, and Texas Watercolor Society.  Jeanne was an avid photographer, gardener, watercolorist, baker, and hostess extraordinaire.

Jeanne will best be remembered by her family and friends as a woman who cared deeply about her Christian faith, who always had room at the table for one more and enough food in the fridge to back up the invitation.  She loved to help strangers and was passionate about fighting for a just cause.  She loved documenting the life of her family in photos, she was a hard worker, and she had an amazing smile.  Jeanne had an artistic eye at an early age, enjoyed hauling her family to craft and art shows in the summer, and finally chose watercolor painting as her own favorite medium.  She was proud of her artwork and the many awards she won but also sought the approval of her family and friends when displaying her final work.  In 2012 Watercolor Artist magazine included her in an article entitled “Best of the Best”.

All are welcome to join Jeanne’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 1, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until her service of thanksgiving at 11:00 a.m., all at Grantham Brethren in Christ Church, 421 Grantham Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with The Reverend Katie Hamlin and Pastor David Flowers officiating.  Masks and social distancing will be required.  Those who wish to attend the service via live web streaming may do so by going to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQGk-yV8YwU .  Private interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsburg will be at the convenience of the family.  Cremation was private.
