Joan Barbara (Wilson) Johnston, age 85, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020, of natural causes, at Kinkora Pythian Home in Duncannon.  Joan was born on Sunday, August 19, 1934, in Oberlin to the late George Wilbur Wilson and Marie Louise (Vennell) Wilson.  Joan was the widow of James “Jim” Frederick Johnston, whom she married on September 29, 1955, and who died on August 10, 1985.

Joan’s survivors include her daughter, Karen Ann Cupp and fiancé Keith B. Yorks of Newport; her sister Margaret D. Gundy of Harrisburg; two nieces, Loretta Marie Remsnyder of Harrisburg and Dr. Barbara Jo Gundy (Marcia) of Pittsburgh; and her nephew Delbert Charles Gundy, Jr. (Cindy) of Harrisburg.

Joan graduated from Swatara High School and was a member of the Astro Chapter of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed singing in the church choir and during several wedding ceremonies.  Joan loved her family and will be remembered for making people laugh with her vibrant sense of humor.

Joan’s immediate services will be private while family and friends are encouraged to remain safely at home.  Burial in Churchville Cemetery in Oberlin will be at the convenience of the family.  Services with public gathering will be announced once scheduled.

Joan’s family would like to thank the staff at Kinkora Pythian Home for their compassion and kindness during her time as a resident; and also thank the members of Neidig Memorial UMC for their thoughts, visits, and prayers.
