A Talented Artist -

Joanne Marie (Bonewitz) Reed, age 85, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at Transitions of Gettysburg on Saturday, April 10, 2021.  Joanne was born on Sunday, June 23, 1935, in Reinerton to the late Chester L. Bonewitz and Anna L. (Spittle) Fox.  In addition to her parents, Joanne is preceded in death by her son, Brian Reed, who passed on March 24, 2018.

Joanne’s survivors include her husband of 67 years, Richard “Dick” Wayne Reed; her son, Dean Richard Reed and wife, Carole, of Dillsburg; her daughter-in-law, Christine “Chris” Elizabeth Reed of Camp Hill; her four grandchildren: Zackery “Zack” Benjamin Reed and wife, Judith, of Mechanicsburg, Amber Kelsey Shearer and husband, Clint, of Dillsburg, Cassandra “Cassie” Ann Miller and husband, Matthew, of Dillsburg, Christopher Alan Brydon and wife, Amaya, of Reno, NV; and her five great-grandchildren: Mason Johnson, Patrick Miller, Benjamin Reed, Pollyanna Miller and Owen Reed.

Joanne graduated from Pine Grove High School as part of the class of 1953.  She was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg for 67 years.  Joanne was an active member of the Red Hat Society and the Ladies Who Lunch.  Joanne loved making ceramics and painting, particularly folk lore scenes.  She even had her own kiln to fire the ceramics, which she then completed by adding her designs.  Joanne also liked to cross-stitch, needlework, crochet, and knit; her many creations adorned the Reed home.  Another talent of Joanne’s was that of playing the clarinet.  She and her father not only shared this skill but a love of the instrument.  She was an avid reader; however, of all of her many hobbies, Joanne’s favorite was shopping.  Joanne loved to gather with her family at reunions and other family events, especially Christmas.  Her family will miss the delicious baked goods and handmade crafts that she created for them.  Joanne’s presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
