Golfing and Traveling -

Joe David Garvey, age 72, of Enola, passed on peacefully to be with the angels on Saturday, September 15, 2018.  Joe was born on Saturday, November 24, 1945 in Ashland, KY to the late Joe Van Garvey and Zelma Lee (Fannin) Garvey.

Joe’s survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marie Kay (Rudy) Garvey; his daughter, Lori Shaffer of Palmyra; his two step-daughters: Sara Klawitter of Mechanicsburg, Stephanie Naugle of New Bloomfield; his four grandchildren: Drew Klawitter, Kara Shaffer, Killian Patterson, and Anastasia Naugle; his sister, Lee Farina and her husband, Lou, of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from John Harris High School as part of the class of 1963 and from Delaware Valley University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.  He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture in Harrisburg, after over 40 years of service working as a seed analyst.  Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Camp Hill Ward for 24 years.  He helped volunteer at New Hope Ministries in Mechanicsburg many times a week in the warehouse and with data entry.  Joe also enjoyed golfing and traveling all over with his wife, Marie.

All are welcome to join Joe’s family at his viewing on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 and for his service on Friday, September 21, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Camp Hill Ward, 216 Skyline Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050; with Bishop Mark Williamson officiating.  Burial will follow in Hershey Cemetery.  Honored to be pallbearers are: Rick Harrow, Tom Kramer, Ken Magaro, Shawn Magaro, Rich Naugle, and Mathew Rudy.
