John Michael Hanly, age 68, of Mechanicsburg, passed away at UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital in Mechanicsburg on Monday, April 26, 2021.  John was born on Thursday, February 19, 1953, in Bowling Green, KY to the late Mike Hanly and Alice Hanly.  In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Hanly.

John’s survivors include his step-daughter: Maria Suzanne Pimentel and husband, Mark, of Mechanicsburg; and his two granddaughters: Natalie Baughman and Maya Pimentel.

John graduated from Bristow High School in Bowling Green, KY, University of Kentucky with degrees in math & physics in 1974 and a Ph.D. in physics in 1987.  He worked as a systems engineer at Schafer Corporation in Huntsville, AL. John later retired from Boeing Company in Arlington, VA; where he worked as a systems integration engineer on the Missile Defense National Team from 2007 until his retirement in 2015.  John had a kind and generous spirit.  He often gave his time and money to those people that needed it most.  He loved his family and his friends and they in turn loved him back.  He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

John’s family will be remembering his life privately. Cremation was private.
