Mary Josephine (Bishop) Sheriff, age 94, of Carlisle, passed at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carlisle on Monday, April 12, 2021.  Mary was born on Friday, October 29, 1926, in Mechanicsburg to the late William Earl Bishop and Helen Irene (Hertzler) Bishop.  Mary was the widow of Seth Raymond Sheriff, Sr., whom she married on March 27, 1948, and who died on February 11, 2004.  In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is preceded in death by many of her beloved sheep and feline companions.

Mary’s survivors include her two children: Seth Raymond Sheriff, Jr. and wife, Joanne, of Rising Sun, MD; Wandalee Mary Cressler and husband, Donald, of Carlisle; four grandchildren: Amy Wiggins, Jennifer Sheriff, Jamie Sundland, and Eric Cressler; her nine great-grandchildren; her five great great-grandchildren; and her beloved feline companion, Miss Kitty.

Mary was a homemaker, who also worked at the West Shore Farmer’s Market in Lemoyne, where she sold produce and operated the laundry. For many years, Mary could be found working in the concession stand at the Silver Spring Speedway in Mechanicsburg.  On their farm, Mary and her husband Seth, raised sheep and had many cats as pets.  Her vegetable gardens reflected her green thumb, and provided fresh vegetables for her; when she cooked for her family and canned foods to store away for future use.  Her love and affection will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
