N. Joyce (Doney) Ensign

N. Joyce (Doney) Ensign, age 83, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023.  Joyce was born on Sunday, July 2, 1939, in Akron, OH to the late Michael Albert Doney and Edith Valerae (Collins) Doney.  In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Boston.

Joyce’s survivors include her husband of 61 years, John Hadley Ensign; her daughter, L. Jennifer Cassel and her husband, Douglas, of Mechanicsburg; her brother, Michael Doney and his wife, Beth, of Akron, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron in the 1960’s and worked in the Akron area as a social worker.  A native of Akron, OH, Joyce moved to Pennsylvania with her husband, John, and her daughter, Jennifer, in 1971 and worked there as an editor with CACI.  She was a long term member of AAUW, the League of Women’s Voters, along with many other organizations as a volunteer, such as the Harrisburg Food Pantry, Christian Churches, Women in Crisis and hospice, just to name a few.

All are welcome to join Joyce’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at Camp Hill United Methodist Church, 417 South 22nd Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011; with Reverend Dr. Stephen Gallaher officiating.  Joyce’s family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at the church immediately following the service.  Burial in Rose Hill Burial Park in Akron, OH will be at the family’s convenience.
