Pauline “Polly” L. Fishel
A Hard Worker -
Pauline “Polly” L. Fishel, age 98, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at VibraLife on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Polly was born on Tuesday, December 20, 1921, in Mechanicsburg, to the late Lloyd Newton Fishel, Sr. and Ruth Iona (Miller) Fishel. In addition to her parents, Polly is preceded in death by her two brothers: Leo A. Fishel and Lloyd N. Fishel, Jr.; and her nephew, Richard Fishel.
Polly’s survivors include her six nieces and nephews: Pamela K. Frazier (Robert) of Mechanicsburg, George R. Fishel (Connie) of Shermans Dale, Sharon Wenger (Barry) of New Bloomfield, Robert "Duck" Fishel (Marie) of Duncannon, William Fishel (Bev) of Zephyrhills, FL, Geoffrey T. Fishel, I (Maggie) of Shavertown; her sister-in-law, Doris V. Fishel, of Mechanicsburg and several great- and great, great- nieces and nephews.
Polly graduated from Mechanicsburg High School as part of the class of 1940. She was a member of Bell Telephone Pioneers and retired from Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania after more than 40 years as a hard-working draftsman who rarely missed a day of work. Polly was particularly meticulous about her lawn, which she mowed at one time with an old-fashioned reel mower. In addition to taking care of her lawn, Polly also liked tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a detail-oriented woman who read the newspaper front to back and enjoyed solving word search puzzles. Her family remembers how Polly loved her light blue, 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air so much that she kept it for nearly 40 years.
All are welcome to join Polly’s family for her in-person viewing and virtual time of gathering at 10:30 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, and her virtual viewing at 11:30 a.m. via video chat or telephone on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, until time of service at 11:45 a.m., with Chaplain Edward Rabenstein of Residential Hospice officiating.
