A Man of Faith & Family –

Richard Nelson Chubb, age 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020.  Richard was born on Saturday, May 23, 1931, in Harrisburg to the late J. Halley Chubb and Anna M. (Noll) Chubb.  Richard was the widower of Donna Maxine (Sultzaberger) Chubb, whom he married on December 29, 1951, and who died on October 20, 2016.  In addition to his parents and wife, Richard is preceded in death by his brother, Donald Chubb.

Richard’s survivors include his three sons: Richard “Rick” Nelson Chubb, Jr. and wife Paula of Mechanicsburg; Timothy “Tim” Andrew Chubb of Dillsburg, William “Bill” Halley Chubb and wife Maryann of Clifton Heights; his five grandchildren: Jeremy Chubb, Julie Wallizer, Sean McGarry, Colleen McGarry and Kathaleen McGarry; his nine great-grandchildren; his two siblings: Jenine Lane of Harrisburg, Harold Chubb and wife Nancy of Harrisburg; and his several nieces and nephews.

Richard graduated from Lower Paxton High School as part of the class of 1949.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Moale, DD-693; and he gladly shared stories from his time at sea.  Richard was a member of both American Legion Post 26 – Dillsburg and The National Association of Destroyer Veterans, also known as the Tin Can Sailors. After retiring in 1987 from Bell Atlantic where he was an engineer inspector for 31 years, Richard maintained his strong work ethic.  As a Jack of all trades, he drove a school bus for 11 years, worked for the railroad, and performed maintenance duties at the United Methodist Home for Children for 14 years.  Richard was a man of great faith and belonged to Life Center in Harrisburg and Christian Life Assembly in Camp Hill, where he shared his time and talent.  He built four homes in four years while working full time and never worked on a Sunday.  Being all about family, Richard was there for them to provide whatever they needed, and they will dearly miss him.

Richard’s immediate services will be private while family and friends are encouraged to remain safely at home.  Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville will be at the convenience of the family.  Friends and family are invited for a memorial gathering and time of food and fellowship at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory), on Saturday, May 23, 2020 (times to be announced).  Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots.
