Richard “Rich” Michael Kumler

Loving & Devoted Husband & Father -

Richard “Rich” Michael Kumler, age 63, of Mechanicsburg, peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Wednesday, October 13, 2021.  Rich was born on Wednesday, September 24, 1958, at Seidle Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsburg to Ruth E. (Shoemaker) Kumler and the late Frank R. Kumler.  In addition to his father, Rich is preceded in death by his brother, Norman David Kumler.

Rich’s survivors include his wife of 23 years, Shirley A. (Hart) Kumler; his six sons: Michael “Mike” Kumler of New Freedom, Shane Kumler of Dillsburg, Jacob Kumler of Mechanicsburg, Zachary “Zach” Kumler and wife, Heather, of Camp Hill, Joshua “Josh” Kelley and wife, Destiny, of Henderson, TX, and Pastor Jacob Kelley and wife, Kimberly, of Lancaster; and his eight grandchildren: Olivia Kumler, Ian Kumler, Landon Kumler, Joseph Medlin, Andrew Medlin, Kayla Medlin, Tavibelle Kelley, and Annabelle Kelley.

Rich graduated from Cedar Cliff High School as part of the class of 1976.  He was employed by Cresline Plastic Pipe Co. in Mechanicsburg for over 40 years in a variety of positions.  With all that experience, Rich was always willing and able to help where needed.  He was a devout Christian and loved his church family.  When COVID-19 hit our country, Rich began to watch “Free Chapel” in Atlanta, GA and became quite fond of Pastor Jentezen Franklin.  However, Rich always said that as soon as he felt safe enough, he couldn’t wait to get back in his church and looked forward to hearing Reverend Ben Wenrich again.  He was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Mechanicsburg.  Even though he wouldn’t play, Rich loved golf.  He also found fun in spending time online “window shopping”.  He was pretty much a homebody unless he was on a trip to Maine.  In the last few years, Rich’s love of Maine brought him pleasure as a place to rest and relax.  Rich was known to be a dog lover but that all changed when a cat named, “Dusty” became his sidekick.  He quickly became a cat lover and found space in his heart for two more furry companions: “Spike” and “Duke”.  Rich was best known for his silly humor, but to those who truly knew him, he was a very loving, caring, and devoted man.  He was a firm believer in working hard and doing a job well; this was a value his father set a good example of.

Rich was taken from his family way too soon and will be sorely missed; they all love him so very much.  He will never be truly gone because of all the wonderful memories kept in their hearts.

All are welcome to join Rich’s family at his gathering of family and friends on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 12:15 p.m., all at Crossroads Community Church, 1425 South Market Street, Mechanicsburg, PA; with Pastor Benjamin Wenrich officiating and Pastor Jacob Kelley assisting.  Private interment in Mechanicsburg Cemetery will be at the family’s convenience and officiated by Pastor Dennis Campbell officiating.  Cremation was private.
