Independent & Determined -

Vera (Cemodanovs) Emery, age 96, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022.  Vera was born on Wednesday, July 1, 1925, in Kharkov, Ukraine to the late Nikolais Pavlovich Cemodanovs and Nadezda (Zizin) Cemodanovs.  Vera was the widow of William “Bill” S. Emery, whom she married on July 27, 1948, and who died on March 3, 2019.

Vera’s survivors include her four sons: Robert Emery and wife, Dorothy, of Denver, CO, David Emery and wife, Laurie, of Whitsett, NC, Paul Emery and wife, Georgi, of Oxford, PA, Michael “Mike” Emery of Noblesville, IN; her eight grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, George Cemodanovs and wife, Pamela, of Farmingdale, ME; and several nieces and nephews.

Vera was born and raised in the Ukraine.  She survived living right in the middle of the chaos and destruction caused by the fighting between Russia and Nazi Germany.  With her parents by her side, Vera persisted and walked out of Ukraine.  She made it to Germany where she worked for the United Nations and then met a soldier in the United States Army.  The young couple married in 1948 in Heidelberg before making their way to the United States of America to start the rest of their lives together.  Family was very important to Vera.  She loved having everyone together for various events and holidays.  Since Vera enjoyed cooking and baking, she was always the one hosting family dinners for the holidays.  One of Vera’s favorite hobbies included gardening and tending to her flowerbeds.  Everyone who met Vera will remember how very independent and determined she was as well thorough and purposeful in all she did.

All are welcome to join Vera’s family at her viewing on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; and for her committal ceremony immediately following the viewing at 12:45 p.m. in Rolling Green Cemetery’s Chapel, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.  Honored to be pallbearers are Brad Emery, David Emery, Jason Emery, Michael Emery, Paul Emery, and Robert Emery.
